Husband of Gay Police Officer Killed in Paris ISIS Attack Gives Emotional Eulogy: WATCH

Étienne Cardiles, the husband of slain officer Xavier Jugelé, delivered an emotional eulogy outside police headquarters on Tuesday. Jugelé was slain by Karim Cheurfi, a 39-year-old Frenchman on the Champs Elysees last week in an attack claimed by ISIS.

The Local reports:

The slain policeman was awarded one of France’s highest honours and posthumously given the rank of captain.

Etienne Cardiles, the partner of the policeman, told the gathered crowd that he had no hatred over the attack.

“I suffer without shame, you will not have my hatred,” he said. He added that he had exchanged texts on Thursday with his partner about an upcoming holiday, adding that the policeman was pleased to be stationed on the Champs-Elysées that day because it represented “the image of France” for him.

“At this point, the worst happened,” Cardiles said.

“You will stay in my heart forever. I love you. Let us live with dignity and defend peace.”

AFP adds:

“This pain makes me feel closer to your comrades who suffer in silence like you and me,” he said in a trembling voice, describing Jugele as a cinema and theatre buff who lived “a life of joy and huge smiles”.

Echoing the words of the husband of one of the victims of the November 2015 Paris attacks, Cardiles said the killer would “not have my hatred”.

“I have no hatred, Xavier, because it is not like you and does not fit with what made your heart beat nor what made you a guardian of the peace,” he said.
